Actarus Renewables and Eren Industries secure €355M for Retina's next phase

Actarus Renewables and Eren Industries Secure €355 Million Financing to Advance the Next Phase of One of Europe’s Largest Biomethane Platforms

Rome, 4 August 2026 – Following the successful development of the first cluster of biomethane plants, Eren Industries and Actarus Renewables have launched the next phase of the Retina Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) platform through the construction of a second cluster of greenfield biomethane and nitrate removal plants in Southern Italy.

Retina SCA, who led the origination of the projects, Actarus Renewables and Eren Industries partnered to underwrite the equity raise, secure an approximately €355 million financing package and provide strategic and operational support throughout the development of the platform.

Construction of the first cluster of ten biomethane plants commenced in September 2024. The facilities include direct injection into the Italian natural gas grid, biogenic CO₂ capture units and organic fertiliser production facilities.

Building on the successful ongoing execution of this first phase, construction of a second cluster of ten plants commenced in May 2026, further strengthening Retina’s position as one of Europe’s leading biomethane platforms and reinforcing its contribution to Italy’s energy transition, the circular economy and the decarbonisation of the agricultural sector.

Leadership Statements

David Corchia, Co-founder of Eren Group (owner of Eren Industries), said:

“We are delighted to continue to invest in Retina, a major platform of our rapidly expanding global biogas activity. This partnership strengthens our commitment to transforming biomass, livestock manure and agricultural by-products into strategic energy resources while contributing to Italy’s energy transition. Together with Actarus Renewables and Retina SCA, we are developing a company that we believe will become a benchmark for the European biomethane industry.”

Franco Torra, Director General of Retina, said:

“The launch of this second development phase marks another important milestone in Retina’s industrial growth. It reflects the strength of the collaboration between our shareholders, financing partners and technical teams, whose expertise and commitment have been instrumental in delivering these projects. By integrating biomethane production, biogenic CO₂ recovery and organic fertiliser generation, we are creating a circular economy model that delivers long-term environmental, industrial and economic value while supporting the decarbonisation of agriculture and strengthening Europe’s renewable energy infrastructure.”

The financing package has been provided by a consortium of banks including:

  • UniCredit S.p.A. (acting as Facility Agent, SACE Agent and Account Bank)
  • ING Bank N.V.
  • Société Générale – Milan Branch

With the support of SACE, which issued the Garanzia Archimede public guarantee to support the financing and protect the lenders’ interests.

About EREN Group

EREN Group was founded in 2012 by Pâris Mouratoglou and David Corchia, after the sale of EDF Energies Nouvelles, a renewable energy projects IPP founded by Pâris Mouratoglou in the 90s and led by David Corchia from 2004.

EREN was created to deploy a wide range of solutions allowing for more efficient use of natural resources through two branches:

  • EREN Renewable Energy, which became Total EREN in 2017 and was sold to TotalEnergies in 2023.
  • An Industries branch, active across different sectors of the energy transition such as thermal management of buildings and industries, low carbon generation (including hydrogen, biogas, biomethane), energy storage, treatment of waste to capture energy, CO₂ and other valuable by-products.
